Raquel Bailón Luesma is Full Professor in the Area of Signal Theory and Communications at the University of Zaragoza since 02/28/2023. She is a Telecommunications Engineer and has a PhD from the University of Zaragoza (European Doctorate, Quality Mention) since 12/18/2006. He belongs to the Biomedical Signal Interpretation and Computational Simulation (BSICoS) group of the Aragon Engineering Research Institute (I3A) of the University of Zaragoza, the Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS), and the Biomedical Research in Network Center: Bioengineering , Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN). His research activity is carried out within the framework of biomedical signal processing, in particular, in the development and evaluation of methods for the characterization of the dynamics and interactions of said signals, with the ultimate objective of extracting useful information from a clinical and physiological point of view. She has experience in the non-invasive evaluation of the autonomic nervous system in applications such as stress monitoring and mental, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

She has been recognized three six-year research award and one six-year transfer award. She has participated in more than 35 research projects with public funding at national, regional and European levels, and in 5 contracts with companies and hospitals for the transfer of knowledge. She has been the principal researcher of 6 projects of national and regional projects and of 3 research contracts with a company and one with a hospital. In addition, she leads the participation of the BSICoS group in the European RADAR-CNS project and has participated in the COFUND BioMEP European doctoral program.

She is the author of more than 70 papers indexed in the JCR. She participates in a registered patent. She has more than 90 contributions to congresses, 75 correspond to international congresses, and 5 are invited papers. She has carried out 4 long-term research stays in Canada (2003), Sweden (2004), Italy (2005) and France (2007), as well as a short-term one in Lithuania (2017), which have allowed her to establish fruitful international collaborations that have resulted in joint publications and the development of international research. She has supervised 7 Doctoral Theses (1 in co-supervision with the Polytechnic of Milan), defended at the University of Zaragoza in 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and is currently supervising another 2 with estimated defense dates in 2021 and 2022. She has participated in the organization of 1 national congresses (2002) and 2 international ones (2011 and 2013) in the field of Biomedical Engineering, as well as technological forums. She is a member of the Biomedical Imaging and Signal Processing (BISP) Technical Committe of the IEEE Signal Processing Society and Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering.
