Dr. Patricia Eugenia Almaguer Kalixto’s scientific trajectory is situated within the field of Social Sciences, with specialization in Social Work, public policy, sustainable development, sociocybernetics, and citizen science. She holds an MRes and a PhD from the University of East Anglia (United Kingdom), and her research integrates a systemic and complexity-based perspective for the analysis of contemporary social problems, combining participatory action research approaches, social innovation, and digital transformation.

She has developed a well-established international career, having participated in 7 international research projects (leading 3 of them) and 18 national projects (leading 4), in addition to applied contracts and projects related to social innovation and rural development. She directs the ODS Rural Labs project, a social innovation laboratory model implemented in Aragón (Spain) and Colombia, which was recognized in 2023 as a Best Practice by AECID and FEMP. Her scientific output includes articles published in JCR- and Scopus-indexed journals (including Current Sociology and International Social Work), as well as authored and edited monographs and book chapters published by leading academic presses (Routledge, Aranzadi, Prensas de la Universidad de Zaragoza).

She holds one research six-year period (sexenio) recognized by CNEAI (2025) and another by ACPUA (2021), has supervised 7 doctoral dissertations (several awarded Cum Laude distinction), and has exercised international scientific leadership as President of the Research Committee on Sociocybernetics (RC51) of the International Sociological Association (2018–2023).

Her research line aims to consolidate a theoretical and methodological framework that articulates citizen science, digital social work, and social innovation to address challenges related to sustainability, ageing, social inclusion, and territorial development. In the medium term, she seeks to strengthen the institutionalization of citizen science within the university context through international networks, doctoral training, and competitive European research projects.

In the long term, her objective is to contribute to the development of replicable models of knowledge co-production between universities and citizens, particularly in rural and peripheral contexts, integrating digital technologies, participatory methodologies, and social impact assessment. She also aims to consolidate an interdisciplinary research program linking public policy, digital transformation, and collaborative governance within the framework of the 2030 Agenda.
