My research is centered in the development of nanostructured materials, micro and mesoporous, metallic nanoparticles, and clusters. These materials are applied in different fields such as membranes, catalysis, adsorption and sensors. In all these fields the miniaturization and integration of alternative energy forms for process activation, i.e, ligth or microwaves is also pursued.

I have co-authored 105 peer-reviewed publications indexed in SCI  (82% in Q1) with 2358 cites an average citation of 230 cites/year the last five years. I have presented more than 150 communications in congresses and conferences national and international, including 5 invited.
I have participated in 30 projects, 33% of them European, 40% national and the rest regional, obtaining a total of 1.16M€ as PI or co-PI. In EU projects I was responsible in my institution of the Erasmus Mundus Docctorate in Membrane Engnieering (2010-2018), with a finance of 536k€ that result in the defencse of 9 PhD in the doctoral program, “Chenical and Environmental Engineering”. This project established and international network with strong collaboration with 9 EU research and higher educatton institutions.

The contribution of my research to society includes research projects and consultancy with companies, BSH, VALEO, PPG and SAICA. Technology transfer activities, 2 patents without explotation and 1 know how agreement. I am co-director of an industrial doctorate with Nurel part of SAMCA group. Since 2019 I am director of “Catedra SAMCA nanotechnology” (https://catedrasamcananotec.unizar.es/ ), we promote the public-private collaboration through “Bonos nanotecnologicos”. In this framework we also organize “Thursday’s nano spin-off talks every month open to general public and researchers. In the field of dissemination activities to schools and the general public we organize “Gala de Nanotecnologia”.I have participated in 2 FECYT projects “La nanociencia y los 5 sentidos” and “Fenanomenos”. Last year I have organized TEDxZaragozaUniversity (https://tedxzaragozauniversity.com/ ) including conferences to disseminate research at UNIZAR in different fields (history, languages, physics, nanoscience, sport sciences, medicine)

I have supervised a total of 14 PhD students out of them 6 are international thesis in collaboration with other research institutions. The actual positions for them are 35% academic institutions teaching in secondary school (2) and permanent positions at University of Zaragoza as full professor (1) and associate professor with tenure(2), 44% working as researchers at different institutions national and international (postdoctoral positions in U Twente,  research engineer KAUST, UP Navarra, Khalifa University, U. Calabria and 21% working in companies, R&D department, data management and publishing activities (Elsevier).

Other activities in the field of research include management: Since 2018 Director of the area “Servicios Transversales” of the “Servicio de Apoyo de la Investigación” of UNIZAR. Participating in the “Infrastructures Committee” of the “Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragon” since 2020. Associate Editor in “Chemical Engineering and Processing - Process Intensification” since 2019.
