Since March 2022, I am a Ramón y Cajal fellow at the Thermochemical Processes Group belonging to the I3A of the University of Zaragoza, where I am developing a project on sustainable production of NH3 by gasification. For 10 years and a half, I was Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Environment of the Centro Universitario de la Defensa, combining my teaching duties (~2000 h, 21 undergraduate and master theses directed and 1 doctoral thesis) with my research tasks. I have obtained the I3 certificate and the accreditation as Full Professor of University.
I have 33 publications including 27 JCR indexed articles in Q1-Q2 journals reaching an h-index of 19. Most of my publications are within the top 10% of the most cited in the subject and have a high citation rate per year. These publications include 4 very prominent review articles. One of them, of which I am the first author as well as corresponding author, has 425 citations, being highlighted by WoS as Highly Cited Paper in 2016. Another 2 review articles were awarded within the top 25 most cited papers among those published by Energy and Fuels in 2016 and 2017. In addition, I have co-authored 22 scientific book chapters, 1 teaching book chapter and 1 teaching book. I have also given 21 oral presentations and 34 poster presentations at national and international conferences.
I have participated as a team member in 7 projects (1.6 M€) of the National Research Plan and as principal investigator in 8 research projects of competitive calls (72 m€). I would like to highlight the project (CTQ2015-72475-EXP) of the Explora 2015 call, of which I am principal investigator, due to the competitiveness of this call. In it, 94 projects were funded among the 927 submitted. In this project an innovative pathway was proposed, for the sustainable production of ammonia through the gasification of waste rich in N. This route significantly improves the negative environmental impact of the current ammonia production process on the biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nitrogen. I have also participated in 4 R&D transfer contracts (390 m€ of euros). Regarding my mobility and internationalization, I carried out a 6-month predoctoral research stay in a world leading research group in pyrolysis and gasification under the supervision of Dr. Anja Oasmaa (VTT, Finland), establishing a strong collaboration that resulted in 1 research article and 1 review article published in co-authorship. My scientific publications show a strong internationalization and relevance of my research, since 9 of my 27 JCR articles (33%) were published with prestigious researchers from different foreign and national institutions such as, VTT, Washington State University, Twente University or Institute of Chemical Technology.
In the near future, I consider research on the production of biofuels for transportation, especially aviation fuels, and value-added chemicals, especially ammonia, to be of key importance.
