Carmen Tirado is Full Professor of Public International Law (University of Zaragoza). Accredited as full professor in January 2023.  She has been awarded 3 six-year research fellowships and 1 transfer fellowship. Since 2012 she is PI of the JAPÓN research group. She has carried out research stays at the European Commission, Council of Europe, Academy of International Law and at the Japanese Universities of Nanzan, Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe and Dokkyo.
He has directed twelve international scientific Congresses from February 2013 until the last one in October 2024, all financed with public funds awarded in competitive calls. He has participated and directed research projects funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, Spanish Agency for International Cooperation, Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, Japan Foundation, MOFA, etc.
He has coordinated 8 collective publications: most recently Las contribuciones de Japón desde la perspectiva del siglo XXI: aspectos jurídicos y económicos en el plano internacional. VV.AA., Aranzadi Thomson Reuters, 2024; Retos de la sociedad digital. Regulación y fiscalidad en un contexto internacional, Editorial Reus, Madrid, 2022; Japón en la era Reiwa: regulación de las nuevas tecnologías y de la acción exterior, VV.AA., Aranzadi Thomson Reuters, 2022 and Retos demográficos y sociedad 5.0 en Japón. Una perspectiva jurídica y social en el entorno internacional, VV. AA., Aranzadi Thomson Reuters, 2023 (the latter two are part of the collection Estudios japoneses. Derecho y sociedad, of which she is the director.
She has presented 60 communications or papers in national and international congresses. She has published 8 monographs in prestigious legal publishers such as Aranzadi, Bosch, Tirant lo Blanc, Colex, Aranzadi, etc., 16 articles in specialized journals and more than 50 chapters in collective books. She holds a Master in European Communities from RIEE (1992) and obtained the Diplôme du Centre d'études et de recherches de droit international et de relations internationales of the Hague Academy of International Law (2001). has been Director of the Department of Public Law at the University of Zaragoza from 2016 to 2024. She is a recipient of the 2018 Foreign Minister's Award of Japan. She completed the IESE Women and Leadership program in the 2020-2021 academic year. She has participated in 18 teaching innovation projects related to the three main subjects of the Area, in several of them as PI.
She has participated as a consultant to two parliamentary committees of the Japanese Diet in 2013 and 2014 to advise on the possible reform of the Japanese Constitution. She has been a member of the mission organized by the Government of Aragon in Tokyo for the promotion of Japanese investments in the PLAZA logistics platform, located in Zaragoza: Logistics and recycling in the EU, in December 2006. Guest on TVE2 in debates on Sino-Japanese relations (November 2012) and Japan's territorial conflicts (June 2014), as well as for Aragón TV in two debates on Brexit (2017), immigration issues and EU law.
Member of the Spanish Association of Professors of International Law and International Relations, the Société française pour le droit international, the Association of Japanese Studies in Spain, the Spanish Association of East Asian Studies and the Spanish Association of Comparative Law. He has supervised three doctoral theses.
