Profesora Titular at the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Department of the University of Zaragoza and member of the Thermochemical Processes Group. My research activities are framed within important concepts for the ecological transitions such as Biorrefineries, Zero Waste, Circular Economy and Decarbonization. My professional activities began in 1996 in the field of pyrolysis and gasification of lignocellulosic biomass and black liquor for energy production. From 1999 to 2001 I worked in R&D department of Dow Chemical Company, Tarragona. In 2001, I rejoined the university and began to work on thermochemical treatment  of wastes with high ash and nitrogen content such as animal byproducts, sewage sludge, manure, for obtaining value-added products (ammonia, phosphorus recovery, low cost solid adsorbents and solid amendments). More recently, my research activities include valorization of municipal solid wastes and textile residues by means of thermochemical processes. Studies about the use of char and ash obtained from biomass and wastes as low cost solid adsorbents are part of my activities. Specifically, their use for ammonium (liquid phase) to evaluate its suitability for the ammonium removal in liquid phase digestate and for H2S removal for the desulphurization of gasification syngas at high temperature and of biogas at ambient temperature. The GPT developes these activities in collaboration with different companies, TAIM WESSER for lignocellulosic biomass studies, SAICA for black liquor activities, SARGA for animal byproducts and manure analysis, CADAGUA S.A. for sewage sludge studies, LITERA MEAT S.A. for pig hair activities and URBASER for municipal solid wastes and textile residues research.
As can be seen in detail in my CVA, I have participated in 20 national research projects and I have been IP of 4 projects of the National Research Plan (1 M euros) and of 1 project for “Prueba de Concepto” call (132.000 euros). In addition, I have participated in 11 contracts with industry and I have been IP of 3 contracts (200.000 euros). As result of the research activities carried out I have supervised 5 PhD Thesis, I have been coauthor in 42 JCR papers (located practically all in Q1 of its category) achieving h-index of 25 and in more than 70 communications to international conferences. I have kept collaboration with other research institutions such as the Institute of paper Science and Technology (USA), Washington State University (USA), Universidad Federal de Sergipe (Brasil), Université de Pau et les Pays de Ládour (Francia), Amazonic Regional University (Ecuador), Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (México).
I participate as evaluator in Spanish National Research Agency since 2013. Postdoctoral Training of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (2013); Selection Committee of research projects of the National Plan, Chemical Science and Technology Area and Energy Area (2015, 2017, 2021); Commission of grants for Predoctoral Contracts (2018, 2021); Torres Quevedo Grants Program (2017 and 2018), Ramón y Cajal Program (2020). In addition, I have carried out more than 40 evaluations at the National Evaluation Agency.
I have participated in the organization of one national congress (XXXVI Jornadas Nacionales de Ingeniería Química). Apart from my official teaching activity, I have mentored more than 30 students (Final Undergraduate Project and Final Master Thesis) and I am Professor Department Secretary since 2016.
