Dr. Celia Conesa Montanel holds a Degree in Veterinary Medicine (2003) and a PhD from the University of Zaragoza (2008), where she began her research career in the Milk Proteins Group through a collaboration grant followed by a predoctoral fellowship. Her doctoral thesis awarded the European Mention and the grade of Sobresaliente Cum Laude and it included a research stay at King’s College London. This thesis was focused on the biological properties of recombinant human lactoferrin, laying the foundation for her specialization in milk proteins and bioactive compounds.

Her postdoctoral career has progressed continuously across public research institutions and the biotechnology industry. At CerTest Biotec (2008–2009), she worked on the development of immunochromatographic assays for diagnostic applications. Between 2009 and 2011, at the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (IACS) and the Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI), she investigated compounds that modulate cell viability, work that led to the filing of a patent. She later joined the University of Limerick (Ireland, 2012–2013), where she further specialized in the characterization and biological activity of dairy protein hydrolysates.
From 2013 to 2024, she conducted R&D activities at the biotechnology company OPERON S.A., focused on the development and production of monoclonal antibodies for in vitro diagnostics. Since 2024, she has been working as a Senior Research Technician at the Agri-Food Research and Technology Centre of Aragón (CITA), where her work centers on optimizing livestock systems through the design of functional diets tailored to ruminants’ productive status and the valorization of agri-food by-products, promoting circular economy principles in animal feeding.

In parallel, she has been involved in university teaching since 2015 at the University of Zaragoza.

Her scientific output includes 22 publications (14 as first author), 710 citations across 638 documents, and an h-index of 14 (Scopus, 19/02/2026). She has presented 25 conference contributions (17 international) and supervised 4 undergraduate and master’s theses (TFG/TFM). She has also participated in 17 research projects, contracts, and consolidated research groups.
