Caridad López Granero (Almería, 1984) is an Associate Professor at the University of Zaragoza (accredited by ANECA in 2016). She obtained her PhD in Psychology with International Distinction from the University of Almería and Rovira i Virgili University in 2013. She has maintained a continuous research career since 2009, with high scientific productivity, including more than 25 publications—many of them in first- and second-quartile JCR journals—over 440 citations (Web of Science), and an h-index of 12. Her research focuses on the effects of environmental neurotoxicants (methylmercury, pesticides, and particulate matter) on cognitive and emotional functions, as well as their involvement in neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, particularly during aging.
Her scientific training has been strongly multidisciplinary and international, including research stays at Rovira i Virgili University (Psychology and Toxicology), the University of Zaragoza (Psychology), Vanderbilt University Medical Center (USA, Molecular Pharmacology) under the supervision of Prof. Michael Aschner, and the University of Cambridge (UK, Experimental Psychology) with Jeff Dalley and Trevor Robbins. She also completed a 24-month postdoctoral fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York, Molecular Pharmacology), participating in projects funded through competitive calls, including Spain’s National R&D&I Plan and NIEHS (USA) grants. These research stays have made a significant contribution to the internationalization of her research career and to the establishment of stable scientific collaborations.
She demonstrates strong scientific leadership through the direction and coordination of 12 competitive research projects and the acquisition of funding for research infrastructure, including the creation of the first molecular laboratory on the Teruel campus. Since 2017, she has been Principal Investigator and scientific leader of the consolidated research group Psychology: Cognitive and Social Processes (S24_23R). She has supervised and mentored four early-career researchers, contributing to the training of new scientists and to the consolidation of multidisciplinary research teams.
Her international profile is also reflected in her participation in scientific evaluation panels, including those of the Spanish State Research Agency (since January 2021) and, from 2025 onward, the Environmental Health evaluation panels of the European Commission. She is actively involved in editorial and peer-review activities for JCR-indexed journals and has served as Guest Editor for special issues. Her sustained international collaborations, particularly with Prof. Michael Aschner since 2010, further enhance the impact, visibility, and knowledge transfer of her research.
