I am a veterinarian (DVM, PhD) and researcher specialized in Reproductive Physiology and Toxicology, with over 20 years of academic and scientific experience. Currently, I am an Associate Professor of Toxicology at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. My research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying how environmental stressors, nutritional challenges, and emerging contaminants affect female animal reproduction, particularly in the ovine model, both in vivo and in vitro. This work contributes to understanding the impact of environmental exposures on reproductive health. In recent years, I joined the University Institute for Environmental Sciences of Aragon (IUCA), and I have been involved in ecotoxicological studies addressing the effects of environmental contaminants on freshwater mussel populations, expanding my research towards environmental health perspectives.
I have participated in 10 R&D projects (two as Principal Investigator) and four research contracts, and have co-authored over 55 peer-reviewed papers, more than 70 conference presentations, and six book chapters. I have supervised undergraduate, Master’s and PhD students, and regularly serve as a reviewer for international scientific journals. My research output has an h-index of 20, with 82% of publications in top-tier journals according to CiteScore (Scopus, July 2026).
Current research lines:
- Uterine molecular responses to undernutrition and melatonin in sheep
- Effects of endocrine disruptors on endometrial function in vitro
- Effects of micronanoplastics (MNPs) on endometrial function in vitro
- Ecotoxicological studies on freshwater mussels
