José Antonio Mérida Donoso is a Profesor Permanente Laboral (Permanent Lecturer) at the Faculty of Education, University of Zaragoza, in the field of Social Sciences Education. He holds a PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid, and his research has developed at the intersection of history education, visual culture, memory, heritage, and identity.

His main research line focuses on the constructed imaginaries of history, territory, and society, and on how they shape the way Social Sciences are understood and taught. From this perspective, he has worked on representations of the past in cinema, literature, and comics, with particular attention to their educational potential for developing historical thinking, critical citizenship, and democratic education.

His research interests include democratic memory, the representation of political and institutional violence, visual culture, the educational use of literary and audiovisual narratives, and the study of rurality, landscape, and heritage as spaces of identity construction and cultural dispute. In the medium and long term, his work aims to consolidate a research line focused on critical visual literacy, the development of historical thinking, and the analysis of cultural discourses that shape social perceptions of the past, territory, and citizenship.
