Lecturer in the Department of Psychology and Sociology at the University of Zaragoza, accredited by ANECA as “Profesor Contratado Doctor” (Tenure-Track Lecturer) and as “Profesor de Universidad Privada”. Since 2022, he has been an External Research Fellow at the Institute for Migration Studies of the University of Granada. For the past decade, he has coordinated the Ibero-American Research Network on Imaginaries and Representations (RIIR). Between 2015 and 2025, he served as a full-time faculty member at Universidad Santo Tomás (Bogotá, Colombia), where he was part of the Research Group on Social Conflicts, Gender and Territories and coordinated the Research Group on International Migration and Vulnerability.
He holds a PhD in Sociology and a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Political Science from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Professional Degree in Sociology from the University of Concepción (Chile). He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Granada and has undertaken research stays at the National University of Colombia, the University of Coimbra, and the University of Granada. He was awarded the national doctoral scholarship Becas Chile as well as a predoctoral research contract at the University of Santiago de Compostela.
Recognized as a Senior Researcher by the Colombian Ministry of Science (MinCiencias, 2025), he holds an H-index of 20 on Google Scholar. He has participated in ten competitive FODEIN–USTA research projects, acting as Principal Investigator in seven of them, and has collaborated with institutions such as the University of Neuchâtel, the Institute of Advanced National Studies of Ecuador (IAEN), the University of Concepción, the University of Santiago de Compostela, and the Colombian Network of Catholic Universities. He has undertaken consultancy work for UNHCR, GIZ, HelpAge International, CARE International, USAID, Mercy Corps, and the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, with a focus on community intervention, educational integration, and international migration.
He has accumulated more than 3,000 hours of undergraduate teaching and more than 200 hours of postgraduate teaching. He has supervised 33 undergraduate theses, 7 master’s theses and 5 doctoral dissertations, and currently supervises two additional doctoral theses. He has served as reviewer for 49 scientific projects in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile. He has participated in more than one hundred academic events in twelve countries and is an active member of editorial committees and academic networks across Europe and Latin America.
His scientific output includes 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and 32 book chapters. He has published 18 books (9 as author-editor of collective volumes, 5 co-authored, 1 as sole author, and 3 as academic editor), as well as 8 technical reports, book reviews and other scholarly publications. His research interests focus on international migration, social imaginaries, and community-based intervention processes with migrant and vulnerable populations.
