Dra. Mónica Vázquez Astorga, Senior Lecturer in the Department of History of Art at the University of Zaragoza (Spain), focuses her research activity on contemporary art and culture.
Her PhD thesis, defended at the University of Zaragoza in January 2005, was based on the study of the extensive and diverse artistic and architectural production of José Borobio Ojeda (Zaragoza, 1907–1984) within the European context of the age. Several books and articles have been published on this topic.
She has also researched other artists and architects and several forms of artistic expression in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (poster art, graphic humour, the world of drawing and its characters, among others).
Recently, she has focused on two subjects linked directly to her PhD thesis: school architecture in Aragon and in other cities such as Florence (Italy); and historical cafés (as public social places) in Zaragoza, Madrid and Florence. Both lines of study have led to several contributions in the form of books and articles, which have collated the results of several research visits to these cities.
