Dr. Lamelas started her research activity (Degree, Master) on postfire related research including the monitoring of Pinus silvestris recovery using remote sensing and GIS, as well as land cover classification from Landsat satellite images. She then followed up with a PhD at Darmstadt University of Technology (TU Darmstadt) in co-supervision with the University of Zaragoza as a researcher of the Institute of Applied Geosciences and funded by a German Research Agency grant. As a PhD, she developed interdisciplinary work on geography, geology and hydrogeological related topics. The applied character of the research allowed her to collaborate with experts in very different field from land managers, to environmental technicians and agricultural engineers. Her main research topic during that period was the cartography of geo-resources and geo-hazards as well as the sustainable land use and spatial decision support systems.
After finishing the PhD, she was employed at a private engineering consultancy (Intecsa-Inarsa, S.A.) between 2009 and 2012. During this period, she worked on Environmental Impact Studies, supported the GIS-based activities of the regional administration and collaborated with the Ebro Hydrological Administration in the Hydrologic plan reporting. She also had a part-time position as an Associated Teacher at the University of Zaragoza.
Her post-doctoral research activity, focused on fire related topics, started in 2012 through a full-time teaching position at the Centro Universitario de la Defensa de Zaragoza, associated to the University of Zaragoza. She became member of the GEOFOREST research group and focused her research on the use of LiDAR remote sensing for forestry applications. She is currently a Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Land Management at University of Zaragoza and give lectures of LiDAR remote sensing within the Master in GIS and Remote Sensing of the cited University and also in the Master Thophee at TU Darmstadt. She has supervised, to completion, three PhD students and 15 Master`s students.
