Belinda López-Mesa is Full Professor in the area of Architectural Constructions at the University of Zaragoza (Spain). She obtained her degree in Architecture from the University of Seville (Spain) in 2000, having completed her studies at the Seville School of Architecture, which she enriched with an Erasmus stay at the École d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville (France). She earned her PhD from Luleå University of Technology (Sweden) in 2004, complementing her doctoral training with research courses at international institutions such as the State University of New York (USA), the University of Navarra (Spain), and the Technical University of Denmark. She undertook predoctoral research stays at the Manchester Institute of Science (UK) and Universitat Jaume I (Spain), as well as a postdoctoral stay at the Indian Institute of Science (India).

She has held academic positions at three public European universities: Luleå University of Technology (2000–2004), Universitat Jaume I (2004–2010), and the University of Zaragoza (since 2010).

She is the principal investigator of the Built4Life Lab, officially recognized by the Government of Aragon since 2017, where she also coordinates the Habitect research line, which focuses on the interplay between architecture, technical dwelling, and the natural environment—particularly in circular building design, energy efficiency, and renovation. Her approach to sustainable housing renovation has contributed to the development of professional practices and regulatory frameworks in Spain and Europe. She has participated in 42 research projects and industry collaborations, leading 17 of them (7 competitive research projects and 10 technology transfer contracts). Her academic output includes over 100 publications in journals, books, and conference proceedings. She regularly serves as a reviewer for international journals indexed in the JCR.

She has supervised five completed PhD theses (defended in 2011, 2014, 2016, 2020, and 2023) and is currently supervising four more. Since 2006, she has actively participated in the evaluation of journal manuscripts, doctoral theses, academic books, and research proposals at national and international levels. She is a member of various evaluation committees, including as expert reviewer for FORMAS (Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development), FNR (Luxembourg National Research Fund), the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), and the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR).

Her knowledge transfer activities are diverse, with special relevance given to her role as director of the Cátedra Zaragoza Vivienda since 2011, in collaboration with Zaragoza’s municipal housing company. She has extensive experience in academic management since 2004 and currently serves as coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture at the University of Zaragoza.

With 25 years of national and international teaching experience, she has taught at the three universities where she has held academic appointments, and has carried out teaching stays at Vitus Bering Denmark University College (Denmark, 2007) and the University of Cantabria (Spain, 2007–2009). She has also contributed as a guest lecturer in postgraduate and continuing education programs at institutions such as the Instituto Valenciano de la Edificación and the University of Seville.
