M. Ángeles Losada ha desarrollado una trayectoria científica diversa en centros nacionales e internacionales. Inició su carrera investigando el sistema visual humano mediante técnicas no invasivas en el Instituto de Óptica (CSIC), donde contribuyó al desarrollo del double-pass asimétrico para el estudio in vivo de aberraciones oculares. Durante su etapa posdoctoral en McGill University, analizó los mecanismos corticales de detección del color y diseñó una innovadora técnica de enmascaramiento por ruido. Posteriormente aplicó su experiencia en percepción visual a la mejora de algoritmos de compresión de imagen y vídeo, liderando el proyecto CICYT-FEDER SITIO (1999–2001), que integró varias líneas del GTC de la Universidad de Zaragoza y favoreció la formación de jóvenes investigadores. En 2003 orientó su investigación hacia las Comunicaciones Ópticas, incorporándose al Grupo de Tecnologías Fotónicas (GTF-I3A). Contribuyó al análisis de redes ópticas y al desarrollo de técnicas para aumentar la eficiencia espectral, como el narrow-FSK, aplicado al etiquetado de paquetes ópticos en la tesis doctoral de Alicia López (2009). Paralelamente inició una línea sólida en fibras ópticas plásticas (POF) junto a Javier Mateo, destacando el modelado matricial de la transmisión en POF. Este avance dio lugar a una colaboración continuada con el grupo de Neo Antoniades (CSI-CUNY) desde 2010, cuyos modelos se integraron en la POF toolbox del software OptSim de Synopsys. Desde 2023, la UZ participa con CSI-CUNY y Manhattan College en el programa NSF-IRES, acogiendo anualmente a estudiantes estadounidenses en laboratorios de Zaragoza. El equipo de POF mantiene colaboraciones estables con los grupos de Joseba Zubia (UPV/EHU) desde 2000 y de Carmen Vázquez (UC3M) desde 2007, formando un consorcio de referencia internacional que ha obtenido seis proyectos AEI. En su proyecto más reciente, junto a CeNIT, demostraron la viabilidad de las POF para Radio over Fiber en enlaces de corto alcance mediante hardware y software específicos. Losada cuenta con una destacada producción científica: índice H de 17, 928 citas y 26 artículos en Q1. Ha dirigido numerosos Trabajos Fin de Grado que han derivado en publicaciones y premios, como el Francisco Villuendas (C. Muzás) o el primer premio COITT “Futuro de las Telecomunicaciones” (M. Barriendos). Entre 2010 y 2012 coordinó la participación de la UZ en el Máster interuniversitario en TIC para Redes Móviles, y entre 2017 y 2025 fue Coordinadora de programas de intercambio en Ingeniería de Telecomunicación. Ha colaborado con ANECA como evaluadora en programas de calidad y en el Programa Academia, y en 2019 evaluó proyectos para el Comité Técnico de TIC de la AEI. En divulgación, participó en el desarrollo del “Maletín de Fotónica”, premiado por Ciencia Viva en 2015, y en 2021 contribuyó al encuentro I+D+i para la Movilidad del Futuro, difundiendo avances en ingeniería aplicados a la movilidad.
