Full Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Zaragoza with more than two decades of academic experience in thermochemical conversion of biomass, sustainable carbon materials and advanced applications in CO2 capture, heterogeneous catalysis, and electrochemical energy storage. His current research focuses on the rational design of biomass-derived hard carbons, activated carbons and hybrid carbon-based electrodes for sodium-, potassium- and zinc-based energy-storage technologies. He has built and led a distinctive research line within the Thermochemical Processes Group, combining process engineering, materials chemistry, advanced physicochemical characterization and electrochemical validation.
He has coordinated two EU-funded Marie Sklodowska-Curie doctoral networks, GreenCarbon and eNargiZinc, and has served as principal investigator in several national and international competitive projects. His academic profile combines high-impact research output, sustained competitive funding, doctoral and postdoctoral training, international collaboration, teaching across engineering and environmental programmes, and service to university governance and the wider scientific community.
Academic positioning: senior academic leader able to develop research lines, attract and coordinate international funding, train researchers, teach across applied engineering programmes and connect sustainable materials research with energy-transition challenges.
