José M. Moneva is Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR). His research on Corporate Sustainability and Social Responsibility (CSR) began with publications in social and environmental accounting, notably a seminal article in the Spanish Journal of Financial and Accounting (1996, with F. Llena). His collaboration with leading research groups—such as CICSMA led by Prof. Carrasco—and prominent scholars in the field—including Carlos Larrinaga, Jan Bebbington (CSEAR, University of St. Andrews), Roger Burritt (Australian National University), and Stephan Schaltegger (Center for Social Mgnt, University of Leuphana)—has enabled him to develop research that is internationally recognized, as evidenced by a high citation index (WOS: 2151 citations). His collaborative work with scholars and research groups—including Mª Jesús Muñoz (Sogres-UJI), Michele Andreaus (Univ. of Trento), Rodrigo Lozano (Univ. of Gävle), and the CIRCE Institute—has resulted in diverse high-impact research projects and scientific publications in this field. Notably, Moneva, Rivera & Muñoz (2007) is included in the meta-analysis of the most influential articles on CSR (Aigle et al., 2008, Business Ethics). He has served as principal researcher on numerous competitive research projects, including five funded through R&D calls by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN)/State Research Agency). He coordinates a research group of excellence (https://ecocircular.unizar.es/). His scientific output demonstrates significant impact, with 53 publications in journals with impact factors (most ranked in Q1 and Q2) and a high h-index within his field (WOS h-index: 26). Throughout his career, he has been an invited speaker at national and international conferences, including participation as a speaker in two symposia of the European Accounting Association Congress. He has presented more than 100 research papers at conferences, most at international venues with external peer review. He is a current or former member of national and international committees: Sustainability Advisory Committee (ICAC), FEE Sustainability Group, Global Reporting Initiative Economic Subgroup, and EFRAG Sustainability Reporting Committee, among others. He has supervised 15 doctoral theses (four of which were awarded the distinction of International Doctorate) and is currently supervising four additional theses. His research priorities for the medium and long term build upon previously initiated research projects that have generated high-impact publications in management, business, accounting, and finance (such as Supply Chain Mgnt, Jnl of Business Ethics, CSR & Environmental Management, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Jnl, among others). Collaboration with CIRCE and other research groups specializing in energy and resource efficiency represents a significant advancement, integrating the circular economy perspective into the measurement, accounting, and reporting of sustainability performance. He teaches courses in social and environmental accounting at both the undergraduate level (Finance & Accounting degree) and master's level (UNIZAR, UJI, UNED, UBU, and others). He is also co-director of the postgraduate program in Sustainability and CSR Mgnt (UNIZAR). Since 2006 he has held various administrative positions and served as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at UNIZAR (2015–2023).
