He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Science (Mathematics) in 2003 and a PhD in 2007 from the University of Zaragoza, with a doctoral dissertation on Infinite Group Theory. Since 2006, he has worked in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Zaragoza, teaching at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in Teruel, the Faculty of Humanities and Education in Huesca, and, since the 2011–12 academic year, at the Faculty of Education in Zaragoza, where he is currently an Associate Professor.

His research is conducted within the fields of Algebra and Mathematics Education. In Algebra, he specializes in Group Theory and published several research papers between 2008 and 2013. In Mathematics Education, his main interests include the didactics of secondary school mathematics content, the history of mathematics education, and teacher education. He has published more than 40 research works, several of them in journals indexed in JCR and/or SCOPUS, as well as two book chapters published by Routledge and Springer. His research activity has been recognised with two six-year research evaluation periods (sexenios) awarded by ANECA (2008–2013 and 2014–2019).

He has participated in four national R&D&I projects (EDU2016-78764P, MTM2010-19938, MTM2007-60994, MTM2004-04842) and is currently a member of the project PID2022-139748NB-100 on proportional and algebraic reasoning in the teaching and learning of probability. Since 2020, he has been a member of the recognised research group “Research in Mathematics Education” (S60_23R) within the Aragon Research Plan. From its creation in 2013 until 2019, he served as Principal Investigator of this group (S119 and S36_17D), which was also recognised as an emerging research group by the Government of Aragon.

He has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences. He was a member of the scientific committee of the 21st, 22nd and 23rd Symposia of the Spanish Society for Research in Mathematics Education (SEIEM) (2017, 2018 and 2019). He also chaired the organising committee of the 21st SEIEM Symposium (2017), served on the organising committee of the 26th SEIEM Symposium (2023), and co-organised the session “Didactics of Mathematical Analysis and Modelling” at the Biennial Congress of the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society (2017).

He has extensive university teaching experience (since the 2005–06 academic year), teaching all courses within the area of Mathematics Education at the University of Zaragoza and across all official degree programmes of the Faculty of Education. He has co-supervised one doctoral dissertation (2022) and more than 35 Master’s theses. He is a co-author of a textbook for mathematics teacher education published by Editorial Síntesis in 2019, with over 1,300 copies sold and more than 120 citations (Google Scholar). His teaching activity has been recognised by the University of Zaragoza with three five-year teaching awards (2006–2011, 2011–2016, 2016–2021).

He has served as a reviewer for several indexed scientific journals and has collaborated with various academic societies. He was a member of the executive board of SEIEM (2016–2019) and of the Aragonese Society of Mathematics Teachers (SAPM) (2019–2024). In addition to his teaching and research activities, he was an elected member of the Faculty of Education Board from 2013 to 2024 and an elected representative in the University Senate from 2017 to 2024.
