With five evaluations of research recognized by the CNEAI, corresponding to six-year periods between 1989/96, 1997/2002, 2003/08, 2009/14, 2015/19 (plus a sexennium of Transfer), Jesús Pedro Lorente is Full Professor of Art History at the University of Zaragoza, where he completed his undergraduate studies, after which he was a six-month fellow at the Spanish Academy in Rome and a predoctoral fellow during four years first at the Università Internazionale dell'Arte in Florence, then at the École du Louvre in Paris, and finally at the Department of Museum Studies, University of Leicester, where he obtained his doctorate in 1993, remaining three more years as a research fellow at the Center for Urban History of that University. He is heading at the University of Zaragoza the research group Aragonese Observatory of Art in the Public Sphere while he is Principal Investigator within the Iberus Campus of the consortium "Art/heritage and social/territorial development in the Contemporary Age". In the UNITA university alliance he leads a line of research on Contemporary art as a dynamization resource for the territory within Working Group 4: Research and Innovation fosusing or rural and mountain territories.
Prof. Lorente is the author of many influential publications among which it is worth mentioning the Manual de Historia de la Museología, Gijón, Editorial Trea, 2012, and four important books translated into other languages: Los museos de arte contemporáneo: noción y desarrollo histórico, Gijón, Trea, 2008 (translated into French, English and Turkish), Grandes críticos de arte (1750-2000), Gijón, Trea, 2017 (published in English by Mimesis International in 2020), Arte público y museos en distritos culturales, Gijón: Trea, 2018 (English version published in 2019 by Routledge), Reflexiones sobre museología crítica, Gijón: Trea, 2022 (English version in 2022 by Routledge). He has been a member of the international editorial board of the Dictionnaire de Muséologie published by ICOM-Armand Colin in 2022 under the direction of Prof. François Mairesse (published in English by Routledge in 2023).
