Dr. Javier Lacasta Miguel holds a PhD in Computer Science and since 2019 works as Associate Professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad) at the Computer Science and Systems Engineering Department of the University of Zaragoza (having the ANECA accreditation since 2016). Since 2002 his research work has focused around the problem of information retrieval in geographical and bibliographical data collections. His interests include GeoSpatial data modelling, knowledge management, semantic web, information retrieval, artificial intelligence and data mining.

He has co-authored more than 80 publications (37 journal publications, 36 national/international conferences, 7 book chapters and a complete book). He has 828 citations in Google Scholar and an h-index of 14. 22 of these publications are in journals indexed as Q1/Q2 in the JCR. He has also participated in 58 research projects from CICYT/TIN, PROFIT, PETRI, CDTI, Avanza, and with European, autonomical or University funding (2 as main researcher). The knowledge and research results from this work have been translated into the productive sector and public administration at national, autonomic and local level through 49 contracts (7 as main researcher) and the publication of several applications as open software. At last, remark that he has been part of AENOR CTN 50 committee for the definition of the Spanish Standards and participated in the development and translation to Spanish of the UNE-ISO 25964. His research work has been recognized by the CNEAI with two positive 6-year research evaluations (sexenios de investigación).

Regarding teaching activities, he has lectured in several courses at Graduate and Master Degree levels, in areas related to Programming, Relational Databases, Project Management, and Information Retrieval at the university of Zaragoza. He has also participated in Master Degrees at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and in courses at the Aragon Institute of Technology. He is supervising a PhD thesis and has supervised 11 bachelor/master thesis. Finally, he is serving as coordinator of the computer languages and systems area since 2022
