Isabel Marzo obtained her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Zaragoza in 1991 and her PhD from the same university in 1996, completing her thesis under the supervision of Drs. Javier Naval and Andrés Piñeiro. Between June 1996 and December 1998, she carried out a postdoctoral stay at the Institut de Recherches Scientifiques sur le Cancer (Villejuif, France). Her work during this period focused on studying the mechanism of action of the Bcl-2 protein family and the regulation of mitochondrial permeabilization. The results of this research were published in international journals, including Nature and Science. In 1999, she spent time at the University of East Anglia (Norwich, UK) before joining the University of Zaragoza as a contracted researcher in February 2000. In November 2001, she was awarded a contract under the "Ramón y Cajal" Program. In June 2008, she became an Associate Professor in the field of Cell Biology, and since April 2022, she has been a Full Professor at the university. She is co-Principal Investigator of the Immunity, Cancer, and Anti-inflammatory Treatments research group, alongside Dr. Alberto Anel.
