My research career started focused on the domestic induction heating application, in close collaboration with the Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances company. The original ideas that I proposed on this field yield to a high number of international patents, publications, and awards. Currently, as PI of the research line, I lead research proposing and creating new high-efficiency power converters and, as PhD advisor, training new young scientists. I have used the deep technical background acquired in my starting research line to propose and lead two new research lines on power conversion for electric vehicles and biomedical applications. In both fields, my expertise in power electronics has led to new and ground-breaking applications, where efficiency, volume and cost are greatly improved. I am also very proud of the research outcomes, which include relevant publications in major journals and conferences, and international patents granted and licensed. Besides, my track record includes successful project accomplishments, bringing new ideas from concept to the market, successfully avoiding the so-called innovation valley of death.
The research lines in power conversion has led to the publication of 85 papers in international scientific journals and 118 international conferences. 70 patent families extended internationally, many of them in use in electric vehicle, biomedical and domestic applications of power electronics. High impact research and technology transfer results with over 2678 citations (h index 27 GS), 2 best paper awards, 2 innovation awards and 1 technology transfer award, as well as several ideas transitioned from low TRL to the market in the domestic and automotive fields. Principal investigator in over 20 projects with public and private funding with a budget above 4 M€. PhD advisor of 3 dissertations, plus two ongoing.
I have received several awards including the "Ramón y Cajal Award" to technology transfer by the Aragon Government, the "IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine" Best Paper Award, the IEEE TPEL Best Reviewer Award, the BSH Innovation award, the "SAMCA Chair Multidisciplinary Award" and the "Accésit Young Researcher Tercer Mileno Award" by Heraldo de Aragón, among others. I am a Senior Member of the IEEE and I have the accreditation for Associate Professor. I have obtained, after a highly competitive process, the R3 certificate and a CNS consolidation project (200 k€). This entitles me to stabilization (as Associate Professor, expected Q1 2025, public process already published in BOE).
