The first stage of my academic career (1996–2005) took place at the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo, where I served as Associate Professor. During this time, I established and led the mechanochemical laboratory within the Department of Materials Physics and was actively involved in the experimental magnetism group (LMM). I supervised master's, undergraduate, and postdoctoral students, many of whom remain collaborators today, an enduring academic relationship that I consider a personal success in training and mentoring future scientists.
The second stage (2005-present) began with my incorporation of the Institute of Nanoscience of Aragón (INA). Here I have dedicated mainly to the development and consolidation of a new line of research on Nanomagnetism and biomedical applications of Magnetic nanoparticles (NPMs) mainly for magnetic hyperthermia. The achievements in this period include new methods of synthesis of NPMs with size control and magnetic properties, in biocompatible colloids for magnetic hyperthermia. In addition, I have implemented the INA cell culture laboratory, a general-purpose laboratory for the study of biological model models and their interaction with NPMs.
Among my main technological achievements is the design and development of a pioneering, fully automated system for measuring power absorption in magnetic colloids and cell cultures. This innovation led to the creation of a University of Zaragoza spin-off company, nb nanoscale Biomagnetics, where I was co-founder and scientific advisor. Through this work, I have established an internationally recognized multidisciplinary research group focused on the biomedical applications of magnetic nanoparticles. I’ve authored 180 publications (70 since 2016), supervised 6 PhD theses and 11 Master’s projects, and hold 2 patents. I appear in the Stanford global ranking of top scientists and hold high academic metrics (h-index 51 WoS, 67 Google Scholar). My work has been widely cited and presented in over 100 conferences, including 36 invited talks and 5 keynotes.
