I am an associate professor at the Department of Statistical Methods, University of Zaragoza. My Ph.D. (1999) focused on extreme value theory with applications to climate. I later held a postdoctoral position at Université Catholique de Louvain, working on extreme value theory. Upon returning to the University of Zaragoza, I became a associate professor in 2003. My main research lines focus on the development of statistical methodology to address climate-related problems. My early work involved modeling extreme events using nonhomogeneous Poisson processes, applied to temperature, precipitation, and hydrological extremes. This led to the development of two R packages: NHPoisson and IndNHtest. I have also worked on statistical tools for detecting nonstationarity in climate extremes, contributing to the development of the R package RecordTest. More recently, in collaboration with Alan Gelfand (Duke University), I have been working on Bayesian space-time models for climate change assessment, focusing on climate extremes using high quantiles, excess-over-threshold approaches, and records.
I have participated in 11 climate-related research projects funded by the Spanish government (CICYT), serving as principal investigator in two of them. Additionally, I have taken part in two European initiatives (HOME and VALUE),  I currently lead a TED project funded by European funds, and I participated in two projects funded by Fundación Biodiversidad. I am a member of the Modelos Estocásticos research group, recognized by the Government of Aragón, and have contributed to four competitive research projects funded by the regional government. I have collaborated with AEMET (the Spanish Meteorological Agency) and the Ebro River Basin Authority (CHE) on projects related to climate variability, river pollution, and flood risk assessment. I have published around 30 papers in peer-reviewed climate, statistical, or environmental journals indexed in the JCR. I have delivered 9 invited talks and 4 keynote talks focused on climate-related topics, addressed to both climate science and statistical communities.
